Roscoe Lee Browne. The sexist voice on celluloid.
I first saw Roscoe Lee Browne in the Film The Cowboys (1972) and later butler Saunders in the TV show Soap (1979 to 1981) and a couple of Law and Order episodes. I loved his sexy voice.
In The Cowboys Browne played cook Mr Nightlinger. He is hired by a cattle owner (Played by John Wayne) and a group of young boys driving his cows to the cattle market. One day a couple of boys wander off. They come across some wagons occupied by females in seductive attire, leaving little to their innocent eyes and imagination. Mr Nightlinger finds them and the women, 'employed' by Kate Collingwood (Colleen Dewhurst).
His response to Ms Collingwood's invitation to join him in her caravan is both amusing and also surprising for a film of the 70s, he is black and she is white.
"Mam, I have the inclination and maturity but I just don't have the time". I love that scene.
